Journalism students invited to participate in virtual networking with SPJ Madison

Updated: Mar 10

MADISON -- College students interested in pursuing careers in journalism are invited to participate in ongoing networking and mentorship opportunities hosted by the Madison chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Because of COVID-19, SPJ Madison has been unable to host in-person events. Still, members are offering services in a different way, especially since the journalism landscape is looking a bit different these days.

Therefore, journalism students, recent graduates or reporters looking for work or to connect with professional journalists for phone or video chats are welcome to fill out the questionnaire here. Those who do will be paired up with a working professional in the Madison area or beyond.

Please note: While SPJ is glad to connect those interested with people working in any area of journalism, including those who work on the business or engagement side of journalism, the organization is not very well-positioned to make matches for those interested in strategic communications, marketing, etc. If there’s an interest there, please reach out to SJMC Career Advisor Pamela Garcia-Rivera.

Previous networking events have connected participants with news organizations such as WPR, Wisconsin State Journal, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Isthmus, The Cap Times, Madison Magazine, WORT and more. SPJ can also look outside of the local media, depending on an individual’s interests.

Questions? Please email Natalie Yahr ([email protected]).
