Meet the Beer Experts: How to Taste Beer and Write about It

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Madison Pro chapter invites all area journalists to “Meet the Beer Experts: How to Taste Beer and Write about It,” an event for lovers of beer and journalism.

We will gather in the pool hall at The Great Dane – Downtown, 123 E. Doty Street, Madison, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, for a 45-minute walking tour of beer-related landmarks around the Capitol Square. Our tour guide will be Robin Shepard, Isthmus contributor and author of the award-winning book “Wisconsin’s Best Breweries and Brewpubs: Searching for the Perfect Pint.” The tour will return to the Great Dane pool hall. At 8 p.m., Chris Drosner, “Beer Baron” at Wisconsin State Journal, will join Robin for a talk about beer journalism and turning your passion into a writing career. An official beer tasting will be held in conjunction with the discussion.

All journalists and freelance writers are welcome to attend. Contact: Joe Radske, vice president SPJ Madison Pro chapter, 279-1038 or [email protected]. RSVPs are not necessary but are appreciated.

Based in Indianapolis, SPJ is a national membership organization that promotes high professional and ethical standards among journalists, First Amendment principles and the belief that a free and vigorous press is vital in a representative democracy.  The Madison professional chapter was formed in 1993.  Membership costs $75 annually and is open to journalists who spend at least half of their professional life writing or editing work for publication or to journalism educators.
