44 Plays for 44 Presidents

“44 Plays for 44 Presidents”

MADISON – Over the next two months, the presidential election will dominate the media landscape. Amid the spin and spectacle, the Society of Professional Journalists invites local journalists to attend Forward Theater Company’s “44 Plays for 44 Presidents,” billed as “a hilarious, and decidedly non-partisan jaunt through the lives of the 44 Commanders-in-Chief, from George Washington to Barack Obama.”

This SPJ group outing will take place Thursday, Sept. 27. Forward artistic director Jennifer Uphoff Gray will address the group from 6:15-7 p.m. to discuss playwriting, dramaturgy and directing. The discussion will take place at Fresco, the Overture Center rooftop restaurant, 227 State St., Madison. Drinks and meals will be available. The play begins at 7:30 p.m. at Overture Center, 201 State St., Madison.

SPJ has arranged for a group discount of $20 per ticket so long as a minimum of 10 people attend. Forward can accommodate about 20 people in our group. SPJ invites journalists, their spouses, partners and friends to attend as part of the group.

Interested individuals should:

 contact SPJ president Mark Pitsch by Sept. 14 to reserve tickets. Email: [email protected].  mail a check for $20 per ticket, paid to SPJ-Madison pro chapter, c/o Mark Pitsch, 1901 Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, WI 53708.

Direct questions to Pitsch at 252-6145.

Based in Indianapolis, SPJ is a national membership organization that promotes high professional and ethical standards among journalists, First Amendment principles and the belief that a free and vigorous press is vital in a representative democracy. The Madison professional chapter was formed around 1990. Membership costs $75 annually, and it is open to journalists who spend at least half of their professional life writing or editing work for publication.
